Debt has a negative effect on individuals with mental health problems, a new study has found. Mental health charity, Mind, surveyed more than 1,800 people across the globe and revealed more than 924 had problems with debt and mental issues. "At a time when people across the country are anxious about their finances, debt depression is a real and growing concern," the group said. Large numbers of people have recently been made redundant in the City, after the fallout from the banking crisis. Mind's study found 63 per cent of those in debt did not tell the organisation they owed they had a problem. Of those with problems, the survey revealed 91 per cent claimed it affected their health and more than half were living on less than £200 per week. Careful use of credit cards can help buyers make instant purchases and balance their finances, although when payments are not made their bill soon rises. ![]() |
