Almost half of Brits will vow to save more in the coming year, a study has found. According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), 47 per cent of respondents said they would make it a New Year resolution to save more. More than half (51 per cent) said it was the current economic climate that made it more likely they will deposit more in their savings accounts. "Our research shows that many people in Britain want to save more for the future - it's good news that even in this difficult economic climate, public attitudes are shifting towards saving," noted Stephen Haddrill, director general. "This is not before time, as ABI research shows that around half of the working population aren't saving enough for their retirement." The savings limit on Individual Savings Accounts could be raised to help people save more without paying tax. Gordon Brown told a caller to BBC Radio Five Live he would consider upping the limit. "I will continue to look at this with the Chancellor. He will be looking at this in the run-up to the Budget," the Telegraph reported he said. ![]() |
