One of the first groups to feel the pinch of the credit crunch this Christmas is likely to be pets, Saga has said. Research compiled by Saga Pet Insurance found that only 32 per cent of cats will receive presents this year from the owners, compared to 53 per cent in the past. Dogs on the other hand look set to fare slightly better with 54 per cent getting a present come December 25th. Fish look set to be more spoiled than cats also, with 32 per cent getting gifts and 35 per cent of birds receiving a present. Their research also found that when writing Christmas cards, 41 per cent of dog owners put their pooches name on the bottom, compared to only 29 per cent of cat lovers One odd tradition thrown up found that two per cent of fish and cat owners give their pets a Christmas card every year. ![]() |
