Plan for health insurance in 2009

Published: 23/12/2008

A healthplan provider has urged people not to forget their health in the New Year even if times are tough.

HSA claim that 58 per cent of the population is unaware of how much they spend on their health, meaning that an unexpected trip could cause financial difficulty.

Abby Bowman from HSA said: "Budgeting for a replacement winter coat or a regular haircut is a habit that most people have formed over time, however, it appears that many people haven't formed the same good habits when it comes to health.

"During difficult financial times, it is more important than ever for people to add up the cost of their health, to help ensure they stay fit, healthy and at work."

Research from the HSA found that 62 per cent of the nation spends less than £10 a month on their "inner health" including dental care.

They also found that people in Newcastle were the least likely to spend significantly, with the average monthly amount totaling less than £5.
