More than a third of people outside of a relationship are worried that it costs them more to live, research has revealed. According to insurer Zurich, 35 per cent are concerned that being single hits them harder in the wallet. The study also found 45 per cent said it was important to avoid overdraft debt and 35 per cent thought it sensible to have money saved. "We understand that modern life can leave very little time for people to sort out their finances," said business development director Tony Solomon. "But the fact that more than a third of single adults worry about the added financial cost of being single, suggests that being single in this current economic climate may be more fretful than fabulous!" The cost of living increases for most people living alone, as food shopping is often more expensive and they have no partner to rely on when money is short. Youth charity Rainer had previously calculated almost four out of five (77 per cent) of young people have been in debt. ![]() |
