UK property is 'still a buyer's market'

Published: 31/03/2011

There is still a buyer's market within the UK property sector, with buyer interest increasing since the start of the year, it has been suggested.

"For anybody in the home moving market, November and December represents a sharp drop-off as people wind things up towards the Christmas period. After Christmas there is then an immediate increase in buyer and renter interest," noted Jon Brown, partnership manager at iammoving.com.

Indeed, he remarked that at the start of the year there is often a positive trend in the number of mortgage holders moving home.

"March is a good time because you have typically got your bank holidays, so a lot of people will schedule in the move," he added.

Mr Brown's comments come after estate agent Winkworth reported that property market activity surged at the start of 2011 following the traditional winter slump.

Buyer demand increased 90 per cent between December 2010 and January 2011, figures showed, while housing stock was also boosted by new properties coming onto the market in January and February.
