Consumers struggle to adjust to energy price rise

Older people who have grown used to paying low energy bills may be struggling to adapt to the recent hikes in prices. This is according to Lesley Tudor-Snodin, a spokeswoman for National Energy Action. Ms Tudor-Snodin said: ""We have recently begun working with school children to try and encourage energy efficiency from a young age, but after years of relatively cheap energy there are several generations of people who will struggle to make these changes as they are just not used to it." She added that while winter bills were likely to be higher than usual due to the recent cold snap, consumers could balance this out by being energy efficient in the summer months when they do not require as much heat. A recent report from Ofgem suggested that better management of heating bills was needed as there was a 13 per cent increase in consumers who were entering into a new debt arrangement with their electricity supplier in the third quarter of last year. © Copyright. |
