Advice on how to avoid serious adverse credit problems has been offered by experts at the Money Matters Roadshow. The BBC-organised event brought together financial experts and members of the public who are struggling in the recession. Debt problems were high on the agenda - with recent figures from charity Credit Action showing that the collective national personal debt stands at almost £1.5 trillion. This equates to each UK household owing just under £60,000, mortgage debts inclusive. Falkirk Citizens Advice Bureau representative Joe Glancy urged debtors to contact lenders at the first sign of money troubles. "You are more likely to get help and support from your creditors if they know what is happening," he told the broadcaster. Lynne Jones at National Debtline also pointed out that UK consumers could take advantage of free advice services to get expert opinions on how to solve their money worries. "As soon as you realise there is a problem, seek free and independent advice from a reputable organisation as friends and family do not always know best," she said. © Copyright |
