Barclaycard has teamed up with government agency Becta in order to provide successful computing grant applicants with a top security card containing the credit from the grant. The card is to play a key role in Becta's Home Access programme, which aims to provide computers and internet access to underprivileged families. Keeping security and accessibility as the main focuses, Barclaycard developed a card which would allow successful applicants to redeem their computing grant securely. By confining redemption to approved suppliers only, the card ensures the correct use of the grant. Kris Reagan, head of public sector at Barclaycard Commercial, said: "For a number of years, Barclaycard has demonstrated substantial commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates: directly, through programmes such as Horizons, and more widely through responsible lending and secure, relevant card technologies. He added: "Barclaycard is proud to have worked with Becta to improve educational resources and support across the UK." A pilot scheme, which ran in two local authority areas in late 2009, saw a 99.5 per cent take-up rate for the card. |
