Savers have been hit hard by recent interest rate cuts with one of four deposit accounts now paying returns of only up to 1%, figures showed today.

Moneynet.co.uk said if someone had £50,000 invested in an account paying an interest rate of 0.3%, they would earn a return of just £10 a month after tax.
