banks’ savings accounts rip-off

More than three out of four savings accounts do not pay hard-pressed savers a “real return” on their cash.
 
Andrew Hagger of Moneynet.co.uk, which undertook the research, said: “Some rates are stupidly low at 0.1 per cent and you have to ask why some responsible banks and building societies can offer rates as high as three per cent while others don’t. Those savers, as taxpayers, poured billions of pounds into these institutions to rescue them from bankruptcy.”
