The Sunday Telegraph (Money and Jobs) Savers are fed up with being punished for their prudence while politicians bend over backwards to seek borrowers’ votes – now a new action group aims to get a better deal for depositors and investors. Andrew Hagger of Moneynet.co.uk said that in 10 years preceding March 2009, the average base rate has been 4.71 per cent. Since last year it has stood at 0.5 per cent.
