ENOUGH TO DRIVE YOU CRACKERS

More than three million credit card applications were rejected in the six months up to September by lenders.

Richard Brown, of Moneynet.co.uk, said: “For borrowers with cash flow problems and poor credit credentials, Christmas is uncomfortably close.

“There are credit card deals available but their punitive rates mean they need careful handling.

“Consider one only if you can clear the balance every month. Anything else is a recipe for disaster as the debt will quickly spiral out of control.”

ADVERSE BORROWERS SHOULD ACT NOW, SAYS MONEYNET.CO.UK

Borrowers should act now to regain credit worthiness as rates creep up in the adverse credit market, Moneytnet.co.uk claims.

Moneynet.co.uk says a number of people being refused credit has shot up as lenders protect themselves against more bad debts.

Richard Brown, chief executive of Moneynet.co.uk, says: There is no question that the current climate is tough for those who don’t fit the criteria for standard mortgages.

SHOPPERS NET XMAS BARGAINS

Christmas shoppers can net a bargain by ordering gifts online.

It is a near-guaranteed way of keeping costs down but buyers need to get a move on, according to Richard Brown, who runs personal finance comparison site Moneynet.co.uk.

Richard says: “Internet shopping saves two things most people don’t have much of these days – time and money.

“So why battle it out with the crowds and pay the full asking price when you can get more choice for less money and effort?”

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM ID FRAUDSTERS

In the wake of the loss of personal data by HM Revenue and Customs, Finance Minister Peter Robinson has ordered an immediate review of data protection systems in the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS).

Financial data comparison site Moneynet.co.uk has advised those in N.I. receiving child benefit to check their bank and credit card statements regularly to ensure they haven’t been targeted by fraudsters as all cases in the UK are handled by HM Revenue & Customs in Britain.

“This unprecedented level of risk should be taken as a wake-up call for all consumers,” says Moneynet.co.uk chief executive Richard Brown. “ID fraud is a thriving business these days and if these personal details do fall into the wrong hands it could spell trouble for thousands of people.

YOU CAN SAVE A FORTUNE SHOPPING ONLINE FOR XMAS

Christmas shoppers can get a bargain by ordering gifts online.

It is a near-guaranteed way of keeping costs down – but buyers need to get a move on, according to Richard Brown, who runs Moneynet.co.uk.

ENOUGH TO DRIVE YOU CRACKERS

Borrowers with a bad credit history face paying up to 60% interest to finance Christmas.

Richard Brown of Moneynet.co.uk, said: “For borrowers with cash flow problems and poor credit credentials, Christmas is uncomfortably close.

“There are credit card deals available but their punitive rates mean they need careful handling.

“Consider one only if you can clear the balance every month. Anything else is a recipe for disaster as the debt will quickly spiral out of control.”

Brown added: “It’s a commonly the case that those least able to afford the repayments are charged the highest rates and have the fewest options.”

MILLIONS SAY NET’S TOO HAIRY

Online shopping is the way to go for stress-free festive spending – but 10 million of us fear our bank and credit card details will be stolen.

And it’s no wonder, after news that 25 million of us have had personal information put at risk by a Government blunder.

Richard Brown, of comparison site Moneynet.co.uk, said: “This couldn’t have come at a worst time, with Christmas shopping producing a massive increase in the number of financial transactions every day.”

Farm Business (Main) – 16th November 2007

THE BOTTOM LINE

Francis Bacon famously once claimed that “knowledge is power” – and now, with the stored knowledge on the internet, we have the most powerful business tool ever.

Defaqto suggested a comparison of the comparison sites, something The Times newspaper attempted using comsumer data. Its views are based on the accuracy and user friendliness of the sites. In the competitive world of car insurance, it says Tesco Compare is the best; for credit cards its top choice us Uswitch; for personal loans, Moneyextra; for savings, Fool, for mortgages, Moneynet.co.uk; and for energy companies, the Energy Shop.

Sunday Times (Money) – 11th November 2007

COMPARING THE COMPARISON SITES

Millions of people use comparison sites to seek the best deals from across the market, but no one has compared the comparison sites – until now.

The best performers are Moneynet.co.uk, Uswitch, Moneyextra, Kellkoo and Moneyexpert, which all provide accurate information.

MONEYNET.CO.UK CELEBRATES A DECADE ONLINE

Moneynet.co.uk is celebrating 10 years online.

The company says that with thousands of products being pushed at consumers the value and responsibility of independent comparison sites in helping consumers choose wisely has never been greater.

Richard Brown, chief executive at Moneynet.co.uk, says: Because comparison sites have become so influential with how consumers make their choices, some lenders and insurers will do whatever they can to manipulate their way into best buy tables and appear at the top of internet searches.

Rather than just provide prices, we regard our role as an advisory one and make sure we are one step ahead by flagging up which products are genuinely advantageous rather than just the ones the lenders want to promote.

Daily Mirror (Main, Web) – 1st November 2007

GETTING MORE FOR LESS IN THE LOANS MARKET

It sounds too good to be true, but you can borrow more and pay less.

A survey by money comparison website Moneynet.co.uk found it can cost no more to repay a bigger loan and, in some cases less.

Moneynet.co.uk found you would pay not a penny more for borrowing up to £1,000 extra from at least half a dozen other lenders including Alliance & Leicester, Barclaycard and Direct Line.
