New fraud reporting laws that have recently come into place in the UK will allow for greater interactivity between the victim and their bank or building society.
According to a spokesperson for UK banking initiative CardWatch, Mark Bowerman, the new credit card fraud rules will "improve the bureaucracy" and trends will become more easily identifiable in that a spate of offences from one institution may be easier to source.
Under the new rules - which were enforced from April 1st - those who fall victim to credit card fraud will be required to make just one phone call to their bank or building society, who, in turn, must then alert the police.
Mr Bowerman said: "There is no escaping the fact that resource levels play a part. Card fraud is not a priority for many police forces but there will be no change in the levels of investigation that take place."
He went on to say say that credit and debit card fraud would not simply be ignored under the new legislation, rather the police would continue to treat these sorts of crime in the same way as previously.
