1. Remortgage

If you are currently paying the standard variable rate on your mortgage then the odds are that you are paying more than you need to. There are two things you can do here - first talk with your lender and see if they can offer you a more competitive discounted or fixed rate - if so it could simply be a case of asking them to switch you to the lower rate for an instant saving.

2. Review Your Life Insurance Cover
Did you know that life insurance premiums have reduced considerably over recent years meaning that life insurance cover has never been cheaper. This means that if you took out your cover some time ago you may be able to save money by rearranging the cover.

3. Switch your credit card

Whilst balance transfer deals on credit cards are not as attractive as they once were there are still savings to be made if you are carrying over a credit card debt from month to month. It's usually fairly painless to transfer your debt to a card offering a 0% balance transfer rate although watch out for the balance transfer fees which most now charge.

4. Consolidate your debts
If you have a number of unsecured debts then you could be feeling the pain. One option is to take out one loan to mop up all your outstanding debt, giving you just one manageable monthly payment. The biggest danger with doing this is that you then continue to spend thus racking up even more debt. However, if you are disciplined enough to control your spending moving forward then this can be a great way to bring your debts under control.
