Families face high costs for going abroad during school holidays
Families who want to go abroad while their children are on school holidays face high premium costs.
This is according to research by Santander Credit Cards, which revealed that they can pay up to 92 per cent more than if they take a break during the school term time.
Andy Smith at Santander recognised that people will "inevitably" have to face higher prices during the peak season.
However, he said: "At a time when many families are suffering financially from the rising cost of living, it is difficult to justify some of these premiums."
Indeed, the bank found that a family of four travelling from London to the Algarve in Portugal have to pay £1,041 more for staying in one four-star hotel during the summer holidays, representing a 92 per cent increase on the price at any other time of the year.
Those who are planning a break during the school holidays have recently been reminded to take out travel insurance.
Stuart Bensusan, co-founder and head of sales at Essential Travel, said even families intending to have a staycation require protection in case they lose their baggage or their holiday is cancelled.
