Energy efficiency 'beginning to concern tenants'
Tenants are increasingly becoming aware of the energy efficiency of the homes that they rent, it has been suggested.
Richard Jones, policy director at the Residential Landlords Association, said having an energy-efficient property is going to become more important to tenants.
He noted that this is due to the increasing costs of electricity and gas bills, as renters will not want to pay a lot of money for the fuel they use.
Older properties are particularly likely to have poor energy efficiency, which may mean that renters will become more interested in newer flats and houses, as they have better fuel-saving features.
Mr Jones also suggested that people are "generally becoming more eco-sensitive as well" and do not want to use more energy than they have to.
His comments could encourage more UK landlords to pay attention to the energy efficiency of the properties they let out, as the Association of Residential Letting Agents revealed last week that 39 per cent do not know the energy performance of their real estate.
