Energy-efficient solutions 'only way to reduce utility bills'
Homeowners may need to be more energy efficient if they want to tackle the cost of rising power prices.
This is according to Peter Smith, campaigns and policy manager for National Energy Action, who said during a BBC Wake Up to Money podcast that while there are currently Ofgem investigations into the market, consumers may need to assess their usage.
Talking to presenter Mickey Clarke, he added: "The only thing that householders can do at the end of the day is reduce ... volatility through looking at the volume that they consume."
According to Mr Clarke, this means becoming more aware of energy-efficiency as a long-term solution to energy price rises, with people now struggling to pay their bills.
This comes as a number of suppliers increase the cost of their products, with npower recently announcing a 12.2 per cent jump in the price of its dual fuel package.
