Optimism 'has improved' in housing market

More mortgage holders are optimistic about the housing market, it has been claimed.

Although February was a quiet month for sales, there has been renewed interest in house searches, Jane Marr, company director at the Little House Company, noted.

"People need to get on with their lives and we are seeing more research, valuations and enquiries on how to sell their homes more cheaply," she explained.

"Enquiries regarding pricing and house searches are up on last year as people research selling a property."

Indeed, according to the latest LSL Property Services/Acadametrics house price index, the cost of property increased 0.3 per cent in February.

However, annual prices have fallen by 0.5 per cent, suggesting that there is still some way to go before the market makes a full recovery.

It comes after Jim Munson, head of marketing at Metropolitan Home Ownership, suggested that first-time buyers could find more affordable options towards the end of 2011 and into 2012.
