Santander sets out to help first-time buyers
Santander has launched new products to help first-time buyers get a mortgage and onto the housing ladder.
It will bring out a Best Buy two-year fixed mortgage at 90 per cent loan-to-value (LTV) at 5.55 per cent and a £499 upfront fee, the building society said.
In addition, it has launched a three-year fixed 90 per cent LTV at 5.99 per cent.
"As the 'Home of UK Mortgages' we are committed to ensuring homeowners are able to get the right mortgage for their needs - whether they are first time buyers or those looking to move," said Phil Cliff, director of Santander Mortgages.
Indeed, it has also announced that the maximum loan size on two-year 75 per cent LTV fixed rates have been increased to £1 million. This is up from £550,000 and could help people moving home or remortgaging.
For a temporary period, Santander has introduced a 'track and fix' option on a selection of LTV mortgages to allow homeowners to make lower monthly payments while interest rates are low and switch to a fixed rate in the future.
