Britons show different attitudes to saving

Britons have revealed different attitudes to financial planning, with most people saving up for just a year ahead, according to a new survey.

Research by Standard Life revealed that while 45 per cent of Britons plan their finances up to a year ahead, just 16 per cent save in advance for six years of more.

Meanwhile, more than one in six Britons, around 17 per cent, do not have any financial planning in place at all.

Jasmine Birtles, TV presenter and founder of moneymagpie.com, claimed that there is more of an "appetite to save", although she noted that the picture is a mixed one.

"Those who can are actually saving more because it has hit home for them that they need to, but others are simply unable to and in fact, they're using their savings to keep going," she explained.

Ms Birtles added that young people in their 20s are the keenest savers, while baby boomers have seen more support in their lives and not struggled as much as people are now.
