Online banking becoming more popular

A new poll by payYOURway shows the increasing popularity of online banking, with nine in ten people having used it at some point.

Two-thirds of the people surveyed said that this is their preferred way to manage their money, while a quarter of people access their bank account online every day.

However, a quarter of adults aged over 55 have never used the technology and 42 per cent of those aged over 75 prefer to visit a high street branch.

"Online provides a much faster and convenient alternative and it's an easy way to keep on top of what's in your account, make transfers, make payments and to do direct debits," commented James Daley, money editor at Which?

He explained that it is easy to sign up to internet banking, but advised users to use strong passwords with a mixture of numbers and letters.

"It is pretty safe these days and even if you are a victim of fraud, as long as you haven't been negligent yourself, the law protects you, the bank will refund you any losses that you've sustained," Mr Daley said.
